& Membership Dear Ladies and Gentlemen, I would like to thank all of you for participating in the electoral process. This being the eve of the 2004 NWHA administration, I would like to address the NWHA Board and our membership. I ask for all members, from the lowly privates to the commanders, to start taking an active role in our club. The NWHA is not just the responsibility of the Board Chairman and the Board. It is the responsibility of all members of this club to start taking an active role in the functions of this club. I am not a politician. I have no strings attached or hands up my bum. I am a "free thinking individual". I have no hidden agendas. My overall goal for the 2004 board is to be successful. With that in mind, this is my agenda for the year 2004: The creation of Committee's: This will cut down on the length of time we spend in the board meetings. The 2004 board will assign tasks for each of these committees. Every board meeting will have a review of the progress of each committee on their allotted tasks. The 2004 board will give tasks to each of these committees. These committees will be made up of both Board members and the membership of the club. Each committee will have a Committee leader to guide the committee through their process and tasks for the year 2004. These are the committees as follows and the following goals are what I feel that need to be addressed for 2004: Budget Committee: Event Planning Committee: Bylaw/Elections Committee: Vice Chairman: The Vice-Chairman position would be a Chairman in training position. The Vice-Chairman is sort of an understudy of the active chairman. The board will decide on what responsibilities the Vice-Chairman will have. When the Chairman leaves office, the membership has the ability to elect the Vice-Chairman who has a full understanding of the responsibilities of the Chairman position. Unification of the NWHA: The NWHA is a successful entity and has the ability to become even better. Since we are an umbrella organization we need to learn from one another and work together for the good of the club. In order to help the board and the Chairman understand each of the member units, I would like to ask for a brief synopsis of how the respective units handle their administrative duties. Ideally this would consist of the following items; how the unit commander is selected, if the unit has unit funds, how NCOs are chosen, unit commander/NCO duties, unit bylaws if any, current unit commander/board rep and NCOs, etc. Goals from the General Membership for the NWHA: I have talked to the newsletter editor and we both have agreed that we will publish "Membership opinion polls" to the general membership. These polls will hopefully reflect the concerns of the club as a whole. This will give the board insight on what the membership wants. Thus, giving us goals to work towards on the Board. Non-event & Event NWHA Board meetings: During the 2004 Board year there will be two scheduled board meetings at events and two away from events. If there is a safety/bylaw violation or other club emergency, then there will be an Emergency Board Meeting on site of the event. |
There might be a few more agenda items to appear in the near future. I will post them when they come to me. The above agenda items are the main ones that I will be working with the board for now. I am very open to suggestions from the membership on the above agenda and goals. Homework: The following things I need from the each of the elected 2004 Board Members and club officers: Unit information, and administrative rules/bylaws. If your unit website does not already provide this information, a brief unit history both in the NWHA and the ETO/Eastern Front. This will help plan events and scenarios. As well as familiarize myself with your respective units. Unit commanders to send this letter to their membership. Volunteers for the Bylaw Committee, Event Planning Committee and the Budget Committee. Volunteers for the leadership of each of the committees. Each Unit Commander writes a job description of their role on the NWHA Board. The elected Axis and Allied Board representative writes a job description of their role on the board. The Secretary writes a job description on his/her role and duties on the board and for the club. Thank you for your time, John W. Chairman NWHA
