Long Range Desert Group (LRDG)
The LRDG Preservation Society is a living history group based on the west coast of the United States. Their focus is the desert reconnaissance units of the British & Commonwealth armies that operated in North Africa against the Italian and German forces. These units crossed enormous spaces of empty desert, navigating by the stars, to positions well behind the front lines from where they could monitor enemy activity. The group has built a replica of a 1942 Canadian-built Chevy, a common LRDG truck, which is used in their displays.
The site has a number of unpublished photos and stories from LRDG veterans along with pictures of their own vehicles. The unique composition and role of this wartime unit makes it an interesting topic in WW2 history.

Remembering Pearl Harbor
National Geographic Magazine
National Geographic magazine has created a website on the attack on Pearl Harbor. The site contains a great deal of historical information on the attack, along with an "online memory book". This area allows visitors to post their own memories of the events or search for more information about their relatives who may have served there.
The site's historical references are fairly in-depth. They have a detailed listing of the American and Japanese ships that were present, along with lists of the Japanese aircraft used in each sortie, including their targets and armament. Maps and timelines show how the attack unfolded, including a nice interactive version showing how the attack occurred.

El Alamein, 1942
This website is dedicated to providing information about the Second Battle of El Alamein. In October 1942 the Commonwealth forces under General Montgomery launched the decisive battle of the war in North Africa. After days of hard fighting the German and Italian troops began a withdrawal that ended in Tunisia and ultimate defeat.
This site contains a history of the battle, along with photographs of the soldiers, personal stories, biographies of the commanders, and specs on equipment.
