Operation Bagration Summer 1944
Sponsored By: NWHA Date: July 28th & 29th, 2001 Salem, Oregon
This July the club held an Eastern Front event in Salem, Oregon. It was the club's first event at this location, and thanks is owed to those who helped to organize the event. The site turned out to have wonderful terrain very well suited to a reenactment. The woods held a lot of cover but had much less undergrowth than found at the coast. There was a light rain during the first night but everyone was well prepared with zelts and tents. During the day the weather was sunny and cool. The site is easily accessible by all types of vehicles and close to civilization.

Grenadier Takes Aim
The club's Russian unit is a provisional one that does not have a board representative. It acts as a secondary impression for existing club members. Membership is also open to those who only want to attend Russian Front events and have the Russian unit as their primary impression.

Soviet Rifleman
The Russian unit is looking to sponsor several events each year. It is hoped to expand the locations and times of Eastern Front events, to incorporate urban and winter scenarios. In addition, they will continue to build on ties established with Russian units in California and attend Eastern Front events with the CHS and the CHG. For more information call Dan Limb at 360-687-3591.

Invasion of Italy Fall, 1943
Sponsored By: NWHA Date: September 22nd and 23rd, 2001
Camp Rilea, Oregon
This year's annual Italian front battle took place during a time of heightened security at the event location. This is likely something club members should anticipate at future events. Arrive ahead of time and keep your equipment organized and easy to search. Be sure to bring ID, and any licenses for weapons that may require them.

Breaking camp
All the units pitched tents and set up camp on the north side of the base. Most scenarios took place in and around the hilly terrain south of the 'Iron O.P.' The weather was perfect again, sunny on Saturday and foggy but warm on Sunday.

GI encampment
The only armored vehicle to attend was the 11 Panzer half-track. This gave it a big advantage on the field, and although numbers were nearly 2-1 in favor of the Allies, the half-track allowed the German forces to act aggressively during the scenarios.

Regrouping for another fight
The club has happy to welcome a number of visitors who attended from the California Historical Group and the Commemorative Historical Society (Northern California) Their effort in making the event under the circumstances was especially noteworthy, and they are certainly welcome in the future.

Normandy Breakout August, 1944
Sponsored By: NWHA
Date: November 17th & 18th
Camp Rilea, Oregon
As August 1944 began, two months of grinding fighting in the Normandy Bocage and in the hills around Caen were about to end. All across the line the Allies were prepared to breakout. The main thrust came from the American 3rd Army under Patton. After punching a hole in the German Seventh Army during Operation Cobra Patton looked to push south and east, searching for open ground to conduct his long sought-after mobile war.

To the east the British and Canadian forces around Caen launched a series of sharp blows across their front. Under the pressure from Operation Bluecoat, Totalize, and Tractable, the German lines began to crumble. Behind the lines the French Resistance and SAS-trained French parachutists played havoc with German communications and transport. In a last desperate attempt to stop the weight of the Allied attacks and stabilize the front-line the German high-command orders all available armored forces to cut across Patton's flank at Mortrain.

Battle fees for the event will be $15 for one day, and $25 for the weekend. Ammunition is available to purchase, but please bring cash only. Formation time will be 9 am. Remember that while we have barracks reserved you should be prepared to camp out, so bring warm clothing, a change of boots, a sleeping bag or blankets, and a tent if possible.

This event is closed to the public. If you would like to attend as a guest please see our Registration letter on the main web site under the 'Events' page. Print the letter and coordinate with the unit that best matches your impression.
